The Casdorph Family

The Casdorph Family

Casdorph is the Americanized name from any of the places in Saxony or former West Prussia called Kasdorf or Kastorf.  


Jacob Casdorph was born Bef 1740 in Pennsylvania. He migrated to Rockingham County, Colony of Virginia.  In 1878 he received a Land Grant from Lord Fairfax for land in Kanawha County, Virginia in what is now the Guthrie area.  He is listed in the 1810 census for Kanawha County, Virginia.  Later generations owned large tracts of land in the Guthrie area, Union District, Kanawha County, Virginia/West Virginia.  Casdorph Road just off WV State Route 21 is named after the family.  Jacob Casdorph’s children were:

1. Henry Casdorph was born in 1760 in the Colony of Virginia.  He married Susan Guthrie in 1801.  The 1810 census for Kanawha County, Virginia reveals the following information regarding the members of the household: 1 male 45+, 1 male 26-45, 1 male 10-16, 1 male 0-10, 1 female 26-45, 1 female 10-16, 2 female 0-10.  The 1820 census for Kanawha County, Virginia reveals the following information regarding the members of the household:  1820 Census: 1 male 45+, 1 male 10-16, 3 males 0-10, 1 female 26-45, 1 female 16-26, 2 females 0-10.  The 1830 census for Kanawha County, Virginia reveals the following information regarding the members of the household:  1 male 70-80, 2 male 20-30, 1 male 15-20, 1 male 10-15, 1 female 50-60, 1 female 30-40, 2 female 20-30, 1 female 15-20, 1 female 10-15.  Henry Casdorph is also on the 1806 and 1809 tax lists for Kanawha County, Virginia. 2. 3. Elizabeth Casdorph was born Abt 1780 in Kanawha County, Virginia.  She married James G. Guthrie (1775) Abt 1801, probably in Kanawha County, West Virginia.  Elizabeth died Bef 1826 in Kanawha County, Virginia.

4. Sarah Elizabeth Casdorph was born Bef 1785 in Kanawha County, Virginia.  She married John Cavender (1765-Bef 1830) Bef 20 May 1798 in Kanawha County, Virginia.

5.  Solomon Casdorph was born Bef 1790 in Kanawha County, Virginia.  Solomon is listed in the 1820, 1830, and 1840 census for Kanawha County, Virginia.  The 1820 census for Kanawha County, Virginia reveals the following information regarding the members of the household:  1 male 26-45; 1 female 16-26; and 4 females 0-10.  The 1830 census for Kanawha County, Virginia reveals the following information regarding the members of the household:  1 male 40-50; 1 female 30-40; 4 females 10-15; 1 female 5-10; 1 male 5-10; and 3 females 0-5.  The 1840 census for Kanawha County, Virginia reveals the following information regarding the members of the household: 1 male 50-60; 1 female 40-50; 1 female 20-30; 1 male 15-20; 2 females 15-20; 1 female 10-15; 1 male 5-10; 2 females 5-10; 1 male 0-5.

6. Susannah Casdorph was born between 1784-1794 in Kanawha County, Virginia.  She married Ralph Joplin in 1810 in Kanawha County, Virginia.

7. Azariah Casdorph was born Abt 1795 in Virginia.  married Mary “Polly” Jones (Abt. 1808 in Virginia), daughter of William Jones, in Kanawha County.  He is listed in the 1830, 1840 (also the Tax List), 1850, and 1860 census for Kanawha County, Virginia.  Azariah is also listed in the 1860, 1870 and 1840 census for Union District, Kanawha County, West Virginia.  Both he and his wife are buried in the Azariah Casdorph Cemetery, Kanawha Two Mile, Kanawha County, West Virginia.  [see The Children of Azariah Casdorph and Mary “Polly” Jones below]

In the name of God Amen
I Isariah Casdorph of the Dist of Union County of Kanawha & State of West Virginia being in feeble health of body but of sound and disposing mind and memory and being desirous of settling my worldly affairs while I have strength and capacity so to do make and publish this my last will and testament, that is to say;
First, I give and bequeath to my eight beloved sons & daughters namely, Delana Casdorph, David Casdorph, Martha Walden, Harriet Guthrie descd, Louisa Guthrie descd, Harriet Young, Lorena Young & Aluna Hulbert the sum of One dollar to each.
Item 2nd To my youngest son Matthew Casdorph all the rest, residue and remainder of my personal estate, I give and bequeath namely One house, Wagon, & all farming utensils & all my household and kitchen furniture whom I hereby appoint sole executor of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills & codicils by me made.
In witness thereof I hereunto set my hand and seal in the Dist. and County aforesaid this the 14th day of February Eighteen hundred and Seventy-Eight.

John Casdorph was born Abt 1810 in Kanawha County, Virginia.  He married Delilah Ann Lacy (b. 1814 in Madison County, Mississippi Territory [Alabama], the daughter of Caleb Lacy (1792-1853) and Lucy Lydia Horton (1797-1880), on 10 Apr 1835 in Kanawha County, Virginia.   John is listed in the 1840 Tax List for Kanawha County.  He is also listed in the 1850 and 1860 census for Kanawha County, Virginia and in the 1870 and 1880 census for Kanawha County, West Virginia.  John Casdorph died Aft 1880 in probably Kanawha County, West Virginia.  Delilah died in 1888 in Kanawha County, West Virginia. John and Delilah were the parents of:

1. Caleb Henry Casdorph was born on 19 Jan 1836 in Kanawha County, Virginia.  He married firstly, Elizabeth Edens (1845-1893) on 28 Dec 1865 in Kanawha County, WV and married secondly, Martha Morris (1856) on 9 Jan 1898 in Kanawha County, West Virginia.  Caleb is listed in the 1850 census for Kanawha County living at the home of his parents at the age of 14. His siblings are listed as Leonora age 12, Mary J. age 9, Cynthia age 7, Nicholas age 5, Filona age 3 and Delilah (infant).  The 1870 census for Kanawha County lists the following members: Caleb age 34, Elizabeth age 24, Leah T. age 3 and infant Carrol M. Casdorph.  Caleb H Casdorph enlisted in the Union Army on 3 Dec 1861 as 2nd Lieut, 8th Infantry, WV.  He was imprisoned on 19 Dec 1863 at Jackson River, WV and was later confined at Macon, GA and Columbia, SC.  Caleb’s muster out date was 27 Jan 1864.  The 1880 census for Kanawha County lists the following members of the household: Caleb (farmer) age 44, Elizabeth age 34, Leah T. age 13, Carrol S. (son) age 11, Matilda J. age 9, L. H. (son) age 7, Eliza age 4, John H. age 2, and Francis B. (son) age 2 mo.  The 1900 census for Kanawha County reveals the members of the household as: Caleb age 64, Martha age 44 (married 2 years), Matilda age 29 (daughter), Henry age 26 (son), Adam B. age 20 (son), Oscar A. age 18 (son), Mary E. age 16 (daughter), Alpha A. age 18 (daughter), Everet age 6 (grandson), and Harry age 1 (grandson).            Elizabeth died on 13 Jan 1893. Caleb Casdorph died on 19 Nov 1918 in Kanawha County, West Virginia and is buried in the Guthrie cemetery located on Two-Mile, Kanawha County, West Virginia.  [see The Children of Caleb Henry Casdorph and Elizabeth Edens below]

2. Leonora Elizabeth Casdorph was born in Feb 1838 in Kanawha County, Virginia.  She married James Lewis Guthrie (1828) on 14 May 1869 in Kanawha County, West Virginia.

3. Mary Jane Casdorph was born Abt 1841 in Kanawha County, Virginia.  She married Lafayette Roper Jenkins (Abt 1841) on 8 Nov 1862 in Kanawha County, Virginia.  Mary Jane died in 1922 in Kanawha County, West Virginia.

4. Cynthia Emizetta Casdorph was born about 1844 in Kanawha County, Virginia.  She married Simeon Young (1839) on 10 Apr 1862 in Kanawha County, Virginia. 

5. Mahala Susan Casdorph was born Abt 1845 in Kanawha County, Virginia.  She married Benjamin W. Craig (Abt 1838) on 2 Jan 1873 in Kanawha County, West Virginia.

6. Nicholas Casdorph was born Abt 1845 in Kanawha County, Virginia.  Nicholas died before 1850 in Kanawha County, Virginia.

7. Lestona Casdorph was born Abt 1846 in Kanawha County, Virginia.  She died Bef 1850 in Kanawha County, Virginia.

8. Pharlena Lydia Casdorph was born on 7 Feb 1847 in Kanawha County, Virginia.  She married Manassah Burnside (1848-1908) on 12 Aug 1869 in West Virginia.  Parlena is buried in the Burnside Cemetery, Putnam County, West Virginia.

9. Zaida Margaret Casdorph was born Abt 1848 in Kanawha County, Virginia.  She married Robert F. Carpenter (1854) on 9 Sep 1875 in Kanawha County, West Virginia.

10. Delilah Casdorph was born Abt 1850.

11. Lucinda Alwilda Casdorph was born in Sep 1852 in Kanawha County, Virginia.  She married Lawson Pugh (1844) on 14 Jul 1884 in Kanawha County, West Virginia.

12. Marshall Azariah Casdorph was born Abt 1855 in Kanawha County, Virginia.  He married Matilda Burnside (1855-1903) on 7 Nov 1878 in Putnam County, West Virginia.

13. Son Casdorph was born on 23 Dec 1856 in Kanawha County, Virginia.

14. Squire Jarrett Casdorph was born on 1 Jan 1857 in Guthrie, Kanawha County, Virginia.  Jarrett is listed in the 1880 census for Kanawha County, West Virginia as a 22-year-old son of John, age 70, and Delila, age 65.  Other members of the household are Lucinda Casdorph age 26, and Mary A. Casdorph age 18 (Jarrett’s wife).  Jarrett married Martha Alice Bonham (Abt 1862) on 27 Nov 1879 in Kanawha County, West Virginia.  Jarrett (44-year-old Farmer) is listed head of the household in the 1900 census for Union District, Kanawha County, WV.  Other members of the family are Martha A. age 38.  Tandy Lester age 18, William S. age 16, Christopher C. age 14, Bessie Lee age 10, and Adaline Bonham (Mother-in-law) age 82. The 1920 census for Union District, Kanawha County, WV finds Jarrett and Martha at home with their grandson, Cecil A. Casdorph age 13.  Jarrett died on 1 Sep 1938 in Guthrie, Kanawha County, West Virginia. Delaney L. Casdorph was born in Jan 1825 in Kanawha County, Virginia.  He married Mary E. Walden (1828-After 1900) Abt 1850 in Kanawha County, Virginia

Martha M. Casdorph (Abt 1829 in Kanawha County, Virginia) married George Watson Walden (Abt 1831) on 12 Dec 1858 in Kanawha County, Virginia.

Mary Casdorph was born Abt 1830 in Kanawha County, West Virginia.  Mary never married.  She died in Jan 1867 and is buried in the Azariah Casdorph Cemetery, Kanawha Two Mile, Kanawha County, West Virginia.

Henrietta Casdorph was born Abt 1833 in Kanawha County, Virginia.  She married James Lewis Guthrie on 15 Apr in Kanawha County, West Virginia.  Henrietta died on 2 Mar 1868 in

Louisa Casdorph was born Abt 1835 in Kanawha County, Virginia.  She married Tandy L. Tully (Abt 1835 in Kanawha County, Virginia) on 20 May 1854 in Kanawha County, Virginia. Louisa died Bef 14 Feb 1878 in Kanawha County, West Virginia.

David Casdorph was born on 13 Aug 1838 in Kanawha County, Virginia. married Amanda Tully (b. 2 Oct 1848; d. 28 Mar 1944 in Kanawha County), daughter of William H. Tully (Abt 1824) and Harriet Wallace (Abt 1825-Bef 1864), on 20 Dec 1866 in Kanawha County, West Virginia.  David is listed in the 1840, 1850, and the 1860 census for Kanawha County, Virginia.  He is listed in the 1870, 1880, and 1900 census as a farmer residing in Union District, Kanawha County, WV. 

1. William Daniel Casdorph was born on 10 Apr 1868 in Kanawha County, West Virginia. He died on 4 May 1869 in Kanawha County, WV and is buried in the David Casdorph Cemetery, Casdorph Lane, Kanawha County, West Virginia.

2. Ira Grant Casdorph was born on 9 Nov 1869 in Kanawha County, West Virginia.  He married Emma Retta Patton (1869-1946), daughter of William Madison Patton (1809-1878) and Eliza Susan Miller (1843-1925), on 13 Sep 1894 in Kanawha County, WV.  Ira is listed in the 1870, 1880, and 1900 census for Union District, Kanawha County, WV as a farmer.  Ira died 14 Sep 1955 in Kanawha County, WV.  He and his wife, Emma, are buried in the David Casdorph Cemetery, Casdorph Lane, Kanawha County, West Virginia. 3. Harriet B. Casdorph was born on 5 Nov 1871 in Kanawha County, West Virginia.  She married Samuel Oscar Bird (1868-1959) on 23 Dec 1890 in Kanawha County, WV.

4. Cora E. Casdorph was born Abt 1874 in Kanawha County, West Virginia.  She married Benjamin A. Robinson (1872) on 7 Mar 1894 in Kanawha County, WV.

5. John Warrick Casdorph was born on 11 Feb 1876 in Kanawha County, West Virginia.  He married Talma Fisher (1883-1962).  John died on 6 Jun 1955 in Kanawha County, WV and is buried in the David Casdorph Cemetery, Casdorph Lane, Kanawha County, West Virginia.

6. Donzella A. Casdorph was born on 3 Jun 1878 in Kanawha County, West Virginia.  She married George H. Ewing (1877) Abt 1897.

7. Willis W. Casdorph was born in Apr 1880 in Kanawha County, West Virginia.  He married firstly, Lucy Bracken, and secondly, Amanda Withrow (1885-1939) after 1904.  Willis died in 1965.  Both he and Amanda are buried in the David Casdorph Cemetery, Casdorph Lane, Kanawha County, West Virginia.

8. Virgie L. Casdorph was born on 27 Dec 1882 in Kanawha County, West Virginia.  She married Lando Lanham.

9. Stella May Casdorph was born on 4 May 1886 in Kanawha County, West Virginia.  She married Flem Tinsley.
 
William Harrison Casdorph was born Abt 1841 in Kanawha County, Virginia. William died on 11 Mar 1864 in Libby Prison during the Civil War.  The Confederate government started to use the facility (an old tobacco warehouse on the banks of the James River) as a hospital and prison in late 1861. In 1862 they reserved it to hold Union officers because of the influx of prisoners. It contained eight low-ceilinged rooms, each 103 by 42 feet (31.4 by 12.5 meters). The second and third floors were used to house prisoners. Windows were barred and open to the elements, increasing the discomfort of occupants. Lack of sanitation and overcrowding caused diseases. From holding 700 prisoners in 1862, by 1863 the facility far exceeded the maximum capacity of 1,000. Mortality rates were high in 1863 and 1864, aggravated by Confederate shortages of food and supplies. Because of the high death toll, Libby Prison is generally regarded as second only in notoriety to Andersonville Prison in Georgia.

Lorena C. Casdorph was born on 14 Mar 1846 in Kanawha County, Virginia.  She married Peter Young (1843-1936) on 14 Mar 1867 in Kanawha County, West Virginia.  Lorena died on 8 Sep 1911.

Mathew Casdorph was born in May 1848 in Kanawha County, Virginia.  He married Losa Elizabeth Asbury (1850) on 6 Apr 1871 in Kanawha County, West Virginia.

Almira O. Emily Casdorph was born Abt 1852 in Kanawha County, Virginia.  She married Clemon Hulbert (Abt 1841) on 30 Apr 1868 in Kanawha County, West Virginia. 
 
The Children of Squire Jarrett Casdorph and Martha Alice Bonham

Tandy Lester Casdorph was born on 12 Jul 1881 in Kanawha County, West Virginia.  He married Dosia “Doshie” Haynes (b. 29 Mar 1884, d. 16 Nov 1969).  The 1920 census for Union District, Kanawha County, West Virginia finds Tandy, age 38, as head of household and a Farmer/Plumber.  Other members of the household include Dosia and their children, Maggie Lee age 11, Margaret age 8, and Martha W. age 3.  The 1930 census for Union District, Kanawha County, WV reveals that Tandy is 48 and working as a Livestock Dealer or his own farm. Other members of the household are Doshie, age 46 and Eugene Casdorph (son) age 7.  Tandy’s WWI Draft Card reveals that Tandy is of medium build, has light hair and blue eyes. Tandy died on 22 Jan 1957 in Charleston, WV and is buried in the Squire Jarrett Casdorph Cemetery in Kanawha County, WV.  His children are listed as Stanton Eugene Casdorph, Maggie Lee Asbury, and Cecil Austin Casdorph.

William Stanton Casdorph was born in Aug 1883 in Kanawha County, West Virginia.  He married Mattie “Lula” Ethel Eary.  The following information for the Squire Jarret Casdorph household in the 1990 census for Union District in Kanawha County WV is as follows:  William is listed as being 16 years of age and single.  He had attended the 5th grade and could read and write and speak English. Others in the household included Tandy L. Casdorph age 18, Christopher C. Casdorph age 14, Bessie Lee Casdorph age 10 and Adaline Bonham (grandmother) age 82. In the 1910 census for Union District in Kanawha County the following information: William is listed as a farmer and head of household and 26 years of age. He and his wife, Lula Ethel Casdorph (age 23), had been married for 6 years and rented their home.

Christopher Columbus Casdorph was born in Oct 1885 in Kanawha County, West Virginia. In the 1910 census for Union District in Kanawha County the following information is provided: Christopher is listed as being 24 years of age and a married wage earner. Members of the household include Louis L. Casdorph age 54, Martha A. Casdorph age 48, and Mattie E. Casdorph (Christopher’s wife aged 19). The 1930 census for Union District in Kanawha County, West Virginia reveals the following information:  Christopher is listed as being 43 years of age and the head of the household. He is listed as owning a radio set and his occupation is a truck driver.  Others living in the home are H. Harrison (Lodger, age 49), Mattie Casdorph age 38 and their following children; Lola age 14, Zola age 14, Claudine age 10, 4. William S. age 2, and Charlotte Casdorph age 1. The 1940 census for Union District in Kanawha County, West Virginia reveals the following information: Christopher is listed as a 54-year-old butcher with an 8th-grade education who owns his own home.  Other occupants of the home include the same members as listed in the 1930 census, with the addition of a daughter, Ramona Casdorph age 7.

Bessie Lee Casdorph was born in Mar 1890 in Kanawha County, West Virginia.
 

The Children of Caleb Henry Casdorph and Elizabeth Edens

Leah Tabitha Casdorph was born on 4 Feb 1867 in Kanawha County, West Virginia.  She married firstly, Joseph Henry Guthrie (Abt 1870-Bef 1898) on 10 Nov 1892 in Kanawha County, WV.  She married secondly, Marshall Powell Holmes (1824-1915) Abt 1898.  Leah died on 22 Mar 1934.

Carroll “Carl” Schurs Casdorph was born on 5 May 1869 in Kanawha County, West Virginia.

Matilda Jane Casdorph was born on 16 Apr 1871 in Kanawha County, West Virginia.  She married John Lewis Miller on 9 Aug 1904.  Matilda died on 18 Feb 1931.

Elizabeth Loraharna Casdorph was born on 9 June 1873 and died on 9 June 1873 in Kanawha County, West Virginia.
Loammi Henry Casdorph was born on 9 June 1873 in Kanawha County, West Virginia.  He married Clara Florence Copen (May1873), the daughter of Vinton Z. Copen and Sarah Ann Sands, on 31 Aug 1903.  Loammi is listed in the 1880 and 1990 census for Union District, Kanawha County, WV as a Farm Laborer.  Loammi died on 15 Dec 1943.

Eliza Telitha Casdorph was born on 23 Oct 1875 in Kanawha County, West Virginia.  She married Nelson Madison Patton (1876) on 8 Jan 1899 in Kanawha County, WV.  Eliza died on 3 May 1935 in Kanawha County, WV, and is buried in the Guthrie Cemetery.

John Hunt Ohley Casdorph was born on 19 Mar 1878 in Kanawha County, West Virginia.  He married Etta Josephine Lamoreaux on 1 Mar 1914.  He is listed in the 1880 census for Union District, Kanawha County, WV.  The1930 census for Kanawha County, WV reveals that John reveals that John, aged 52 years, is living on Florida Street in Charleston, Kanawha County, WV as head of household and a veteran (WWI).  Other members of the household are Etta, age 37, and the following children:  Caleb age 15, Charles age 12, Louise age 10, John age 8, James age 6, Rayma age 4, and his father-in-law, Charles Lamoreaux, age 67. John Ohley Casdorph died on 28 Mar 1958 at Two-Mile, Kanawha County, WV.  At the time of his death his children were listed as Caleb Henry Casdorph, John Ohley Casdorph, James Firpo Casdorph, Rayma LaQue Schwartz, and Louise Elizabeth McLaughlin.  [see The Children of John Hunt Ohley Casdorph and Etta Josephine Lamoreaux below]
 
Adam Bescom Casdorph was born on 3 Mar 1880 in Kanawha County, West Virginia.  Adam is found in the 1900 census for Guthrie, Union District, Kanawha County, WV.  He is listed as being 20 years old, single, and living in the home of his parents.  Other members of the household include Caleb, age 64, Martha, age 44, Matilda age 29, Henry age 26, Oscar age 18, Mary age 16, Alpha A. age 18, Everet (Adam’s nephew) age 6 and Harry (Adam’s nephew) age 1.  The 1930 Federal Census finds Adam, age 50, age employed as a car inspector (Southern Pacific Railroad) in San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas with his wife, Marie “Mary” Dejesus Travino “Mary” Casdorph age 38.  Adam served in the U.S. military from 10 Dec 1903 to 9 Dec 1906 (honorable discharge). Adam and Maria were married on 25 Dec 1905.  The 1940 Federal Census reveals the following information: Adam age 60 (widowed and working as a janitor for the U.S. Govt) living in San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas.  Other occupants are 3 lodgers: Jose Rojas age 36, Elodia Rojas age 38, and Antonio Rojas age 12.  Adam’s WWII Draft Card reveals that he is working at Duncan Field in San Antonio, 5’9” tall, 145 lbs., with a light complexion and brown and gray hair.  Mary died on 12 Oct 1939 in San Antonio. Adam died on 25 Mar 1955 in San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas at the age of 75.    He is buried in the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio.

Oscar Azariah Casdorph was born on 28 Apr 1882 in Kanawha County, West Virginia.  Oscar died on 1 Mar 1903.

Mary Ethel Casdorph was born on 4 Mar 1884 in Kanawha County, West Virginia.  She married James Morris (1873) on 19 Aug 1909 in Kanawha County, WV.  Mary died on 11 Mar 1931 in Kanawha County, West Virginia.

Ann Casdorph was born on 21 Jul 1886 in Kanawha County, West Virginia.  She married Solomon Langford Bailey (1875-1962) on 26 May 1931 in Kanawha County, WV.

Casdorph was born Abt 1815 in Kanawha County, Virginia.  He married Elizabeth Johnson (Abt 1817) on 21 Jan 1841 in Kanawha County, Virginia.  John is listed in the 1820, 1830, 1840 (also Tax List for Kanawha County, VA), 1850, and 1860 census for Kanawha County, Virginia. He is listed in 1870 and 1880 census for Union District, Kanawha County, WV. John and Elizabeth’s children were:

1. Jerusha Casdorph (daughter) was born Abt 1841 in Kanawha County, Virginia.

2. Henry Clarke Casdorph was born Abt 1844 in Kanawha County, Virginia.  He married Mary E. J. Cash (Abt 1850), daughter of Powhatan Cash (Abt 1814)  and Margaret Tyree (Abt 1825) on 7 Feb 1867 in Kanawha County, West Virginia. Henry is listed in the 1850 and 1860 census for Kanawha County, Virginia.  He is listed in the 1870 census for Washington District, Kanawha County, West Virginia and the 1880 census for Jefferson District, Kanawha County, West Virginia.  They were the parents of one daughter, Margaret E. Casdorph (Abt 1868 in Kanawha County, WV).  Margaret married Addison E. Walden (1860) on 6 Jan 1887 in Kanawha County, West Virginia.

3. Lewis Casdorph was born Abt 1845 in Kanawha County, Virginia. He is first found in the 1850 census for Kanawha County, Virginia, at the age of 5 and living in the household of John M. and Elizabeth Johnson Casdorph.  The other children listed are Jerusha, age 9, Clarke age 6, and Margaret age 2.  The 1860 census for Kanawha County lists the household members as being John aged 41, Elizabeth age 36, Clark age 14, Lewis age 13, Margaret age 11, Hugh age 9, Maria age 7 and Samuel age 4.  The U.S. Civil War Pension index states that Lewis served in the Kanawha 7 No. Va. (WV) Cavalry as a soldier in the Union Army.  The filing date is 12 July 1890 listing Lewis as an invalid and that the original pension filing was on 15 Aug 1884.

4. Sarah Margaret Casdorph was born in May 1847 in Kanawha County, Virginia.  She married Neri J. Keeney (1847-1930) on 27 Feb 1868 in Kanawha County, West Virginia.  Sarah died on 21 Oct 1943 in Lincoln County, West Virginia.

5. Hugh Rice Casdorph was born Abt 1851 in Kanawha County, Virginia.  He married Mary Effa Eary (Abt 1862 in Kanawha County, VA), daughter of Anthony Eary (1833) on 14 Aug 1879 in Kanawha County, West Virginia. Hugh is listed in the 1860 census (age 19) for Kanawha County, Virginia, and is listed in the 1870 and 1880 census for Union District, Kanawha County, West Virginia.  The 1900 census for Curry, Putnam County, West Virginia lists Rice age 49 and America (Mary) [married 12 years], Clarence age 18, Ada E. age 16, Lance age 11, John age 8, Mary age 6, William age 5 and Zona age 3.  The 1920 census for Curry, Putnam County, West Virginia lists Robert Casdorph age 18 (son) living at home with his parents.  Rice died on 1 Apr 1927 at St. Albans, Kanawha County, West Virginia.  He is buried in the Casdorph Cemetery in Hurricane, Putnam County, West Virginia.

6. Maria Casdorph was born Abt 1853 in Kanawha County, Virginia.

7. Samuel N. Casdorph was born Abt 1856 in Kanawha County, Virginia.  He married firstly, Arthelia St. Clair (Abt 1858-Bef 1891), daughter of George W. and Adeline Luella St. Clair (Abt 1840), on 1 Oct 1879 in Kanawha County, West Virginia.  He married secondly, Francis Elizabeth Amos (Abt 1863) on 11 Dec 1891 in Kanawha County, WV.  Samuel is listed in the 1860 census for Kanawha County, Virginia, and in the 1870 (age 14) and 1880 census for Union District, Kanawha County, West Virginia.  The census states that Samuel is aged 25 and other members of the household are Arthelia A. Casdorph (wife).  The 1910 census for Jefferson, Kanawha County, WV reveals that Samuel is 55 years old and married to Francis, age 46.  The children in the household include Florence age 16, Alice age 15, Frank age 14, Melvina age 13, Virgie age 12, Lillian age 11 and Loyd age 6.  Samuel died on 26 Sep 1932 in St. Albans, Kanawha County, WV and is buried in the Walden Cemetery, Charleston, Kanawha County, WV. 9. Louisa Casdorph was born Abt 1860 in Kanawha County, Virginia.  She died in July 1861 in Kanawha County, Virginia.

10. Ellen Casdorph was born Abt 1863 in Kanawha County, West Virginia.  She married John G. Tully (Abt 1857) on 9 Apr 1881 in Kanawha County, West Virginia.

Roy Elkins Casdorph was born on 5 Mar 1897 in Kanawha County, West Virginia.  Roy died on 9 Feb 1898 and is buried in the David Casdorph Cemetery, Casdorph Lane, Kanawha County, West Virginia.

Glendon Edgar Casdorph was born in Aug 1899 in Guthrie, Kanawha County, West Virginia.  He is listed in the 1900 census for Union District, Kanawha County, WV at the age of 9 months along with the following household members:  Ira age 30, Emma age 31, Elsie age 5, Mollie age 2 and William Hatten (Boarder) age 52. The 1910 census for Guthrie, Kanawha County, WV reveals the following members of the household: Ira age 40, Emma age 41, Elsie B. age 15, Mollie age 12, Glendon E. age 10, Grant age 8, Otmer C. age 7, David M. age 3, Emery O. age 2, and Bessie H. (infant).  The 1920 census for Guthrie, Kanawha County, WV lists the following members of the household:  Glendon E. age 21 and Single (Farm Laborer), Ira age 50, Emma Retta aged 50, Mollie age 22, Agee G. age 18, Otmer C. age 16, David M. age 13, Emory O. age 11 and Bessie H. age 10.  Glendon’s WWI Draft Card (issued 12 Sep 1918) describes him as being stout, short, with red hair and blue eyes. His WWII Draft Card (issued 16 Feb 1942) states Glendon was 5’ 5” in height, 159 lbs., gray hair and blue eyes with a ruddy complexion, and working at Bonham Dairy.  The 1950 census for Union District, Kanawha County, WV states that he was a Milk Weigher working 48 hours per week.  Other members of the household are listed as: Ira age 80, Cora E. Robinson age 76 (Sister to Ira).  Glendon died on 14 Dec 1968 in Charleston, Kanawha County, WV and is buried in the David Casdorph Cemetery, Casdorph Lane, Kanawha County, West Virginia. 

Emory Orin “Orie” Casdorph was born on 2 Feb 1908 in Kanawha County, West Virginia.  He married Violina Marie Shamblin. Emory is listed in the 1920 census for Thaxton, Kanawha County, WV as being 10 years of age and living with his parents.  Members of the household are listed as: Ira age 50, Ema Retta aged 50, Mollie age 22, Glendon E. age 21, Agee G. age 18, Otmer C. age 16, David M. age 13, and Bessie H. age 10.  The 1930 census for Union District, Kanawha County, WV finds Emory age 22 as Single and working on the family farm as an unpaid member of the family.  The household includes I. G. Casdorph age 60 (Head), Rudy K. Casdorph age 61 (Wife), and Emory’s siblings, Glendon age 30 and Otmer age 27.  Orin’s WWII Draft Card reveals that Orin is 5’4 inches in height, weighs 136 lbs., and has a light complexion with brown hair and blue eyes. The 1950 census for Charleston, Kanawha County, WV finds Emory, age 42, as head of the household with his wife Violina, age 32, Emory being employed as a Truck Driver for George Wiel Elite Laundry and working 60 hours per week. He attended school for 12 years and graduated. Their children are Phyllis J. age 15, Irvin I. age 12, Richard Arnold. age 8, and Patricia A. age 5.  Emory died on 13 Jul 1971 in Kanawha County, WV and is buried in the Delaney-Casdorph Cemetery Oren Casdorph, Charleston, Kanawha County, West Virginia.

James Firpo Casdorph was born on 15 Sep 1923 in Charleston, Kanawha County, West Virginia.  In the 1940 census for Union District, Kanawha County, West Virginia, James Firpo is 16 years old, is Single and living at home with his parents. Other members of the household are J. O. Casdorph (Father) aged 62, and Etta J. Casdorph (Mother) aged 47.  His siblings are listed as follows: Louise E. age 20, Rayma age 13, and Oscar age 5.  James’ WWII Draft Card (Registration Date 30 Jun 1942) reveals that he is 18 years old, Single, 5’10” in height, weighs 138 lbs. with a light brown complexion, 118 lbs., brown hair and brown eyes.  James enlisted in the U.S. Army as a Private on 7 Jun 1943 in Huntington, WV.  The 1950 census for Charleston, Kanawha County, WV finds James F. at the age of 26, Married, head of the household and Proprietor of a Trucking Company, working 65 hours per week, and a WWII Veteran.  His wife is listed as Ruthanna (Heilman Deiter) Casdorph (Pennsylvania) age 24. Their daughter, Deborah A. Casdorph is one year old.  James Firpo Casdorph died on 16 Apr 2009 at the age of 85 in Charleston, Kanawha County, WV, and is buried in the Casdorph Family Cemetery in Kanawha County.  Jim lived Jim lived his entire life enjoying the beauty of the hills that surround his home and family. He served in the Army during WWII and landed on Utah Beach on D-Day.  He met his future wife and best friend while stationed at Indiantown Gap, Pa. He married Ruthanna Heilman Deiter in 1946 and brought her to West Virginia where they reared their five children.  Jim retired from Allegheny Freight Lines after thirty-five years and was a member of Teamsters Local 175. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church.  Jim was survived by his wife Ruthanna, daughters, Debora Casdorph, Beverly (Tom) Neal, Nancy (Gary) Baldwin, and Etta (Roger) Smithson; son James (Lisa) Casdorph, sisters, Louise McLaughlin and Rayma Atkinson Schwarz; brother, Oscar Delano Casdorph; 12 Grandchildren and six Great grandchildren.
