The Fisher Family
[Note to the Reader: The Fisher family is extensive. The following information was gleaned from The Kanawha County Family Tree Project and Sissonville: A Time to Remember. I am certain it is fraught with mistakes, and I need a second or third eye to help follow the threads in this family tapestry. A rather large amount of research still needs to be done, as you can well see.]
William Fischer was born in Germany in 1762 in Germany and emigrated to the Colony of Pennsylvania. He died between 1834 and 1838. His children are as follows: William, Conrad W., John, Leonard, and George. His wife is unknown.

Introduction: The six brothers left their home in Augusta County, Virginia, striking out for land set apart for homesteading in the Marietta, Ohio area. Upon their arrival at Tuppers Creek, John and George decided to stay. William, Henry, and Leonard decided to settle on Fishers Ridge in Jackson County. Conrad had decided to settle in the Malden area.
William Fisher was born before 1776.
Henry Fisher
Conrad W. Fisher was born about 1781 in Philadelphia, Colony of Pennsylvania. Conrad married Rachel Miller on 30 Oct 1805 in Monroe County, Virginia. Conrad died about 1865 in Putnam County, West Virginia.
John Fisher was born in 1784 in Philadelphia, Colony of Pennsylvania. He married Lucretia Harrison in 1812 in Kanawha County, Virginia.
John died on 19 Jan 1866 in Kanawha County WV and is buried in the family cemetery at the forks of the Poca River. [See obituary below]
Wednesday January 24, 1866
John Fisher, Sr. of this county, was found drowned in Two Mile Creek below Charleston, at the edge of the ford above the turnpike bridge. When thus discovered he lay on his back, his head scarcely submerged in the shallow water, and his feet upon the bank. This occurred on Friday last, about 4 o'clock in the evening. Some two hours earlier in that day, Mr. Fisher had been noticed to start on his way home, which was about 12 miles north of Charleston and appeared to be in fine spirits. the body of the deceased was removed to the home of Mrs. Littlepage, and on Saturday morning an inquest resulted in the following:
Verdict of the coroner’s jury- that the said John Fisher, Sr., in the option of this jury, came to his death by accidental drowning in Two Mile Creek, in this county, aforesaid, on the 19th of January, 1866.
Mr. Fisher was 74 years of age etc.

Leonard Fisher was born about 1789 in Virginia. He married Sarah Harrison in 1818. Leonard died on 4 Jun 1865 in Lucas County, Iowa.
George Fisher was born in 1792 in Virginia. He married Frances A. Lanham before 1825. George died on 3 Dec 1876 in Kanawha County, West Virginia. [See will below]

In the name of God Amen
I George Fisher of the County of Kanawha and the State of West Virginia being infirm in body but of sound mind and disposing memory for which I thank God and calling to mind the uncertainty of human life and being desirous to dispose of such worldly estate as it hath pleased God to bless me with, I hereby make my last Will and Testament in manner and form following. This is to say
1st I desire that all my just debts and funeral expenses be paid out of my personal estate.
2nd I bequeath to my wife Frances her feather beds and bedsteads with all the bedding she may want, 1 bureau, 1 cupboard, one clock, one cow, one horse, one woman's saddle and her own money and the notes she has for money she has lent and (...) they who in their deeds is bound to pay me and my wife so long as we both shall live after my death they are to pay my widow half the amount they paid both of us should this be more than she wants they are not to pay more than she needs and if they should not be sufficient for her support that my children to be equally bound for her support during her life.
3rd I bequeath to my granddaughter Sarah Frances Goff [only child of his deceased daughter, Emily] my land on Hains branch on which Elbon Gans now lives on also the lot in Sissonville, I bought of William Slater known as the Arthur lot also the young mare known as hers also the heifer known as hers, one feather bed, five quilts, two cover lids, one counterpane, two blankets, two sheets, two pillows and one bedstead. I appoint Burwell S Fisher [his son] as her guardian to hold her property and land that I have bequeathed her to rent her lands receive the rents, take care of her property, keep it in his possession until he think it proper to give to her till she becomes of lawful age though should I during my life make use of any of the property I have bequeathed to her it is to be made given to her in the same kind or as money.
4th I desire that at my death that my personal [property] not disposed of in this Will be sold and the money with that money [that] is on hand or as in any way coming to be equally divided between my children and my granddaughter Sarah Frances Goff and lastly I appoint my son David W Fisher and [nephew] Emberson Fisher as my Executors of this my last Will and Testament in witness whereof I hereunto set my hand and seal this 19th day of August, 1874.

Fisher & Emberson Fisher the Executors therein named who made oaths thereto according to laws and together with Edmund Newhouse and Franklin Fisher this securities entered in (...) & acknowledged this bond in the penalty of $2,000, conditioned according to Law certificate is granted them for obtaining probate of said Will in due form.
And it is further ordered that A D Tolley, John Fisher, Zana Shirkey, Franklin Williams & Henry Fisher or any three of them after being first duly sworn for the purpose, do appraise the personal Estate of the said decedent, current money, and make report thereof this court.

Thomas M. Richard “Dick” Fisher was born about 1833 in Kanawha County, Virginia. He married Jemima Mary Kelly, daughter of William Kelly and Mary Woods, on 31 Oct 1860 in Kanawha County, Virginia. Richard died before 1900.
David Wilson Fisher was born on 26 Nov 1834. He married Henrietta Newhouse, daughter of Edmond and Rachel Samuels. Their children were Charles Brady, Burwell, Thomas, Roxalana, Elizabeth, Sidney, Emily, Arminta, and Jim. David Fisher died on 9 April 1916.
Emily Fisher was born in1839 in Kanawha County, Virginia. She married William Goff, son of Leonard and Sarah Goff, on 1 Oct 1857 in Kanawha County, Virginia. Emily died either on 20 Dec 1858 or 1 Jan 1859 in Kanawha County, Virginia.
Sidney Ann Fisher was born on 3 Aug 1836 in Kanawha County, Virginia. She married John
Eagan on 16 Apr 1857 in Kanawha County, Virginia. Sidney died on 3 Jul 1874 in Kanawha County, West Virginia and is buried in the St. Clair Cemetery, Pocatalico, in Kanawha County, WF.
Arminta Frances Fisher was born in Mar 1841 in Kanawha County, Virginia. She married Emberson Fisher, son of Franklin Fisher and Nancy Koontz, on 21 Dec 1865 in Kanawha County, West Virginia. Arminta died on 7 Sep 1924.
Jim Fisher married Lucinda Burdette. Their daughter, Sidney Fisher, married Ed Newhouse, son of John G. Newhouse and Mary Sisson. Their son, John “Yelloe” Fisher, married Cora Breeden. Their daughter, Evie Fisher, married Jim Gibson, son of W.H. Gibson and Martha Thaxton. Jim Fisher died on 12 Dec 1859.
