Mr. David Shirkey, an old and esteemed citizen of Sissonville, was found lying in the road dead a short distance from his home. Mr. Shirkey left home for a neighbor to procure some seed corn, this he obtained and left for home in apparent good health. Shortly afterwards his horse was seen with the sack still on his back, but Mr. Shirkey not with him. Suspecting something had happened to the old gentleman, a neighbor instituted a search for him with the above results. Mr. Shirkey was eighty years of age and for a number of years a magistrate.

Atkinson (WV) to serve as State Librarian of West Virginia. He moved to Charleston and immediately became prominent in the politics of Kanawha County. Pleasant died on 23 Mar 1930.

He married Elizabeth Jane Rose (b. 28 Feb 1849 in Kanawha County, VA), daughter of William Seth Rose and Finetta Dawson, on 19 May 1868 in Kanawha County, West Virginia. He also served as Deputy Sheriff for four years and was frequently called upon to accept the duties of public office. He also served as assessor for four years. Henry was then appointed U.S. Marshall and served three years, retiring then, more or less, from politics. and returned to farming. Henry died on 27 Sep 1913 in Kanawha County, WV.
